A tireless winner of dance as an art form, Bailin has motivated generations of dancers with her eager wit, amiable humor and discerning eye. In her endeavors as a performer, choreographer, instructor, administrator and mentor, she is perennially resourceful, demanding and energetic. In the interview, Bailin reflects on her early coaching in New York City with dance legend Alwin Nikolais, her intercontinental vocation as a performer and choreographer, and her influence on the College of Dance at Ohio College.
As Bailin recounts, when she examined with Nikolais at the Henry Road Playhouse in the late 1940s and early 1950s, he was experimenting with a new variety of dance, modernism, which emphasised abstract motion ideas and gave movement, audio and light equivalent great importance on the phase.
