Jenna Dewan talks new show ‘Come Dance with Me’

Jenna Dewan claimed that she could relate to both equally the mom and dad and the kids on CBS’s new family members dance competitors collection, “Come Dance with Me.” 

“I was originally taken with the concept of the display. I liked the thought of taking younger skilled dancers, and asking them to question one particular of their untrained moms and dads to dance with them. I was comparable to a large amount of these children, I was dancing nonstop, and it was my lifetime,” Dewan, 41, told The Publish. 

“I know what it is like to be a diehard dancer as a child. But I also know what it’s like to be the mum or dad who would do nearly anything for her young children,” she reported. “I could see it in their eyes [in the show], how much the parents wanted to impress us and be there for their kids. I get it. It was super-entertaining, but challenging for me to judge, for the reason that my heart was so invested in their journey.”

In “Come Dance With Me” (Fridays at 8 p.m.) is hosted by Grammy-successful songwriter Philip Lawrence — best acknowledged for his collaborations with Bruno Mars — with judges Dewan, Dexter Mayfield and Tricia Miranda. 

In every episode, a younger trained dancer (involving the ages of 8 and 15) faucets one particular of their dance-newbie mom and dad to be part of them on stage, executing a choreographed range for the panel of judges. They’re evaluated based on technique, crew chemistry and showmanship. Each individual 7 days, father or mother/boy or girl duos are eradicated until eventually the very last pair standing wins a $100,000 grand prize. 

“I was drawn to the braveness that it requires for these moms and dads to say certainly,” claimed Lawrence, 41, who has received seven Grammys and garnered 18 nominations.

“They’ve been viewing from the sidelines, supporting their kids’ dreams, and they are now thrust into that arena when they’ve had none of that schooling. It usually takes a whole lot of courage to get out of your comfort and ease zone like that. It drew me to give them encouragement. You get to see the young ones telling the mothers and fathers what to do … and the mothers and fathers are seeking not to be told!”

In addition to performing stints on “The Rookie,” and “Superman & Lois,” Dewan is best known for the 2006 dance film “Step Up,” and she’s also been a backup dancer for the likes of Janet Jackson and Pink.

But, similar to the moms and dads on the clearly show, she’s also a mother to an 8-calendar year old daughter Everly (with ex-spouse Channing Tatum) and a 2-calendar year-aged son (with fiance Steve Kazee, “Shameless”). 

“We have a ton of spontaneous dance get-togethers in our house. There are a large amount of fights above the Alexa and what songs are going to play, and what form of dance celebration we’ll have,” she claimed. “But my daughter, funny more than enough, was not into dance at all. She experienced no fascination in it. And then just just lately, she grew to become incredibly interested in Irish dance. 

“And so, we uncovered an Irish-dancing class, and she’s obsessed. I’ve never pushed it, I was distinct, I was like, ‘If this is not her passion, I’m not pushing this on her.’ But then, she stated, ‘You know what I want to do? “Riverdance.”‘ I said, ‘OK.’ And right here we are.”
