Each individual calendar year, Honors pupils of all majors are invited to post artwork to the once-a-year Honors Art Exhibition. The Exhibition, which is exhibited in Alumni Hall, encourages pupils to have interaction in self-expression by way of visual art.

This yr, 38 pieces were chosen for the demonstrate throughout many unique mediums, from pictures to electronic artwork. Submissions are judged for the show primarily based on inventive merit as nicely as how the items relate to every single other. UD professor of art and design, Roger Crum, served as the choose for this year’s exhibition. 

Pieces that are chosen to be exhibited receive a $100 scholarship just about every. In addition, a single artist is selected as “Best of Show” and receives a $500 scholarship. 

In this year’s Exhibition, two artists were decided on for Very best of Exhibit: sophomore Isaac Burkart and junior Mira Holifield. 

Holifield, a graphic style and design major, explained to the Honors Business that she chose to enter the art display simply because it is a great option to showcase her do the job outdoors of the Artwork and Design department.

“As a graphic structure important, artwork and style make up the vast majority of my experiments right here at UD,” Holifield additional. “I appreciate participating in the Art Demonstrate every single yr simply because it is really great to see artwork from college students outside the house the Art and Structure division.”

Holifield submitted her artwork titled “Space,” which was produced in the course of her initially 12 months at UD. Holifield discussed that the artwork is a blended media piece employing pen tracings, thread, paint and images. 

In addition to her Ideal in Show piece, Holifield also submitted two other artworks – a painting and a photograph – introducing that she doesn’t have quite a few chances to share her wonderful artwork items. 

“I’ve been generating art for as very long as I can bear in mind,” Holifield said. “It’s often been a enormous portion of my everyday living and a way for me to destress and convey my creativity.”

Holifield explained this was her 3rd yr publishing artwork for the Honors Exhibition, and she options on entering for her last time future calendar year as effectively.
